I was born in Australia, living mostly in Sydney until I was 35 years old, when I moved to Germany. I began photography very early, with my first noteworthy photographs taken at the age of 9 in Tasmania. At the age of 10, I began to learn the trumpet, progressing to musical composition and conducting from the age of 12 and 13. I studied trumpet under Lindsay Smith and then Gordon Webb at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) majoring in composition under Anne Boyd, Ross Edwards and Peter Sculthorpe at the University of Sydney in 1996.

In 1997, I began working for the railways in Sydney as a railway traffic controller, and in 1999 also became involved in project work for the Business Development section. In 2000, following assistance in the development of the computer control system which operated the Olympic Park sections during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, I was seconded to assist in developing the system for roll-out across the entire Sydney area. After a year, I transferred to the Train Planning section, working as one of two managers for trackwork throughout NSW, where I remained until being seconded to the Rail Management Centre Project in 2002. I left the railways in 2004, after deciding to return to music full-time. In 2006, I started working on a PhD in psychology and music at the MARCS Auditory Laboratory in the University of Western Sydney, focussing on safety issues within the railway traffic controller environment. During this time I also taught Organisational Psychology, continued working as a photographer, and continued composing, including a dance film score for "13 and 32" for MARCS. Following the completion of experiments in Dunedin, New Zealand, I decided - despite their success - that I would discontinue the PhD, and returned to teaching and composing.

As well as working as a freelance photographer during this period (weddings, orchestras, dance ensembles, etc.), I was photographer for the Nature Conservation Council of NSW from 2004 to 2009, and some of my photographs are still used by the NCC today. Some of my photographs have also been used by Canon Australasia since 2009, and can still by seen on various pages within the "About Canon" environmental section.

In my musical capacity, I have composed many hours of works for orchestra, choir, soloists, piano, small ensembles, big band, and symphonic wind ensemble. My major works include "Earth, the bringer of life" (to accompany Holsts "The Planets") and "The Spirit of The Pillga", both commissioned by the National Parks Authority in 2004, two symphonies ("Genocide" and "Gallipoli"), three concertos, two double concertos, and numerous tone poems.

I moved to northern Germany in 2009, initially living in Kiel until moving to Schacht-Audorf near Rendsburg. Until mid-2010, I was not permitted to take photographs, compose or perform music due to visa restrictions: I was only permitted to teach English, which I did at the University of Applied Sciences in Kiel from 2009-2016 and have done at the University of Kiel since 2009. In 2017, my first book as co-author, Business Englisch für Fortgeschrittene für Dummies, was released by Wiley Publishing.
